I've been tagged

I've been tagged by Cupcake Mumma to take part in a Q and A game. I nearly always forgot to do things like this but I'm trying to be better at remembering so here goes . . .

Here are the rules . . .

1) You must post the rules
2) Post 12 fun facts about yourself in the blog post
3) Answer the questions the tagger has set for you in their post and then create 12 new questions for the fellow bloggers you plan to tag
4) Tag 12 people and link to them on your blog
5) Let them know you tagged them

My 12 Facts
1 - My star sign is Aries
2 - When I was young I was mad about Greek Mythology erm Take That. (Geek)
3 - I am a retired wedding singer
4 - I teach Nursery children and Primary 2
5 - I'm a bit of a rule breaker (you'll see this below)
6 - I love my breadmaker - it's the best present ever!
7 - I married my high school boyfriend
8 - I am very short (5ft 1 (with my hands in the air)
9 - I am very competitive but pretend that I'm not
10 - I love the smell of books
11 - I like to exaggerate when I tell a story. It's wasn't a fish I caught when I was 5, it was a shark!
12 - I get embarrassed when I buy toilet roll - don't ask me why, we all do it!

My 12 Questions set by Hannah

1. What is the nicest thing you have done for someone?
I have no idea. I like to think I am nice most of the time. I did give a lady £1 last week because she had no change for the parking meter. She was very happy.

2. What are you most proud of in your life
Difficult - the easy answer would be producing a beautiful son and to be honest I can't think of anything that tops him so I'm taking the easy route here!

3. How long have you been blogging?
One year and about 2 months.

4. What is your favourite time of year and why?
I love spring, especially April. We always seem to get nice weather around April and May and I love the way the trees start to fill out and the flowers start to bloom. It's like a chance to start all over again and leave the darkness of winter behind.

5. If you were to go and cook something right now, what would it be?
I would probably be more likely to go and bake something as I prefer baking. If it was cooking a meal it would be something out of my My Daddy Cooks cookbook (which is my kitchen bible at the moment) like Chicken and Tarragon Pie.

6. What's your guilty pleasure?
I sometimes eat peanut butter with a spoon and sometimes I each jam and peanut butter together (with a spoon).

7. Where did you go on your first holiday?
My first holiday abroad was to Rhodes in Greece, a place we went on to visit for many years as we loved it so much.

8. What's your biggest fear?
Losing a loved one. As yet at 29 years old I still have all my grandparents and parents and have never lost anyone close to me (other than my family dog). I know this is inevitable but I fear it nonetheless.

9. One way to make you laugh?
I really love the iPhone auto correct jokes. The get me going every time!

10. What was the last thing you bought?
I bought a photo cover for my iPhone with my little Grumpinator's face on.

11. If you could travel in time when and where would you go and why?
I would go to Rome at the height of the Roman Empire. I love history and this is one of my favourite historical periods. So much drama!

12. What's your favourite film of all time?
I really don't have one. I go through phases with films. I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie) even though it was really crap. It's still a classic for me though!

I am going to be really bad and not make up new questions. I am going to set the same 12 questions for my readers. I have decided to be a bit of a rule breaker and not tag anyone. I will leave it open so if you haven't already been tagged and would like to be then feel free to use my questions in your own post. Comment here that you have done it so that I can check out your answers.

13/365 Don't Stop Believing

I was tagged in a 'what would be your karaoke song?' meme by The Crazy Kitchen and Working London Mummy ages ago but kept forgetting! Better late than never!

I have included this as my 365 today as it was relevant considering I was gigging tonight at a wedding in Dundee. When I was younger I used to love karaoke and I would be up there chanting away at any opportunity. I haven't sung karaoke in a long time as now I get paid for it! I think the last time was at my hen night where we went to an Italian restaurant that had karaoke during and after dinner. What a laugh!

If I was to sing on karaoke now my song would be Don't Stop Believing by Journey. I loved this song long before the X-Factor contingent got hold of it. I actually recorded it last night but I can't work out how to link it onto the blog so I might edit this in the future and add it in once I figure it out! If you are curious in the meantime, you can check out my band site with some recording here . . .

I need to tag some people now but it's tricky as most have already taken part so apologies but I am leaving this open. If you haven't been tagged already, then consider yourself tagged! Feel free to link back or not but comment below so that I can check out your post!

An Interview with . . .

Me!

I have been tagged by Emma over at Mummy...Mummy...Mum! to take part in a Q and A meme which started over at Mrs Lister. I like memes where I can reveal a little bit more about me and share random information that would otherwise been confined to my own buzzing brain. So here goes and I'll try not to put you to sleep!

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
Nick Vujicic because despite being born with no limbs, he lives life to the full and improves the lives of others through his motivational lectures. Check out his video . . .

When were you happiest?
It sounds corny but the moment I held JC in my arms for the first time. He was yucky and warm and a bit smelly but I loved every inch of him and I can't put into words how much love I felt for him in that moment. It was very special.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
I once fell off stage during a performance and split my trousers up the front. What made it worse was the red pants I was wearing with the word FLIRT written on them! *shakes head in shame*

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
We spent a fortune on our wedding. It wasn't overly lavish but we did have everything we wanted and I don't regret a penny spent.

What is your most treasured possession?
My dogs - I would save them before my husband and he know it!
Where would you like to live?
I like where I live just now but I'd like a bigger house and maybe a bit closer to where I work.

What’s your favourite smell?
I love the smell of JC, it's like porridge and Golden Syrup.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
Sandra Bullock - she's a bit feisty like me.

What is your favourite book?
I don't have one. I like loads of books and I go through phases. I love vampire novels - everything from Anne Rice to Twilight.

What is your most unappealing habit?
I'm always late due to my habit of procrastination. Like right now, I should be getting ready to go out but I really had to write this post *wink wink, nudge nudge*

What is your earliest memory?
When I was 3 I kicked my uncle's friend in the mouth when he was pushing me on the swings. I knocked out one of his teeth.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
A spoonful of peanut butter, nutella and Golden Syrup - sounds gross but mmm, mmm , mmm. I discovered it when making my own Ferrero Rocher.

What do you owe your parents?
Admiration and gratitude for bringing me up with a solid set of values, a kind nature and good manners.

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?
My husband because he always gets my bad side as I know I get away with it with him. I often don't appreciate him as much as I should.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
I love my family, friends and music. It takes all three to make me complete.

What does love feel like?
For me it feels like a rise and fall in my belly. Like being on a rollarcoaster or like the Earth is moving - sounds like a cliché but that's how I feel it!

What was the best kiss of your life?
The first kiss with my hubby in my livingroom after our first date. Very passionate and full of pent up frustration. We were friends for years before we realised we liked each other.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
'seriously?' and 'Do you ken what a mean?'

What is the worst job you’ve done?
As a housekeeper in  hotel/castle I had to clean a room where some dirty ba*&ard had done a poo in the bin!

If you could change one thing from your past, what would you change?
I would worry less. I worry needlessly about so many things that I think I might develop an ulcer.

What is the closest you’ve come to death?
I slipped out of a harness on a rollercoaster when it was upside down.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Getting through childbirth and the first three months of JC's life when it was really hard work.

When did you last cry, and why?
On my birthday, last week. I often feel emotional on my birthday.

How do you relax?
I rarely relax but wine, a bubble bath and listening to music often help.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
I would love to lose weight. I have been trying to lose weight for the last ten years and I always fail at this. I know I would do so much more with my life if I wasn't always obsessing about my excess baggage.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Sometimes life is shit and horrible things happen but these things usually teach you a lesson that you will need in the future. Also I stand by this piece of advice 'You catch more flies with honey than vinegar' and 'Be nice to people on the way up the ladder because you will meet then again on the way back down.'

I have to now tag others to take part, sorry if you have already been tagged! It does take a while to complete but I enjoyed thinking through my answers.

Random Acts of Kindness

"Kind hearts are the gardens, Kind thoughts are the roots, Kind words are the flowers, Kind deeds are the fruits. Take care of your garden and keep out the weeds, Fill it with sunshine, kind words and kind deeds."

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882); American poet, educator

I started thinking about random acts of kindness a few years ago when I was talking about being kind with my primary 6 class. We were discussing how it feels when someone is kind to us and how it can feel amazing when we are kind to other people. Apparently we are the 5th kindest nation according to a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). I don't think it feels like that sometimes. I think we can be a really negative nation at times and can be preoccupied with ourselves. I think that kindness is a quality that can be perceived as weak sometimes and that is quite sad.

I tried to start up this 'meme' a few weeks ago but I got cold feet about it. So I guess this is me trying again. I am going to take the approach that it is something I am doing for myself but if you want to link up then you can but if you would rather just leave comment then that is fine also.

The idea is to write a post with the theme of kindness. This can be something kind that has happened to you or someone else. It can be something kind you have done for someone or feel free to take the theme of kindness and go off on your own tangent. I will not be setting any particular rules.

I will do my Random Acts of Kindness post on a Thursday and the linky thingy will be on there, feel free to link up and join in, no strings attached!
