Fife Family Fun

I am always trying to give JC new experiences and develop his interests. At the moment, the main interest is Ice Hockey. He is only 2 and a half and already he follows his local team, Fife Flyers. He loves spending time in the arena, checking out the Zamboni (the big ice cleaning machine), watching the figure skating, schmoozing with the ice hockey players and sourcing snacks from the vending machines and cafe. We will usually take him to a game if its a Sunday as the Sunday games start earlier. He sits screaming 'Go Flyers!!!' at the top of his voice.





What I love about Fife Flyers is that it is an institution steeped in history. The arena itself is old and weathered but that all adds to the charm. It maybe doesn't have the pizazz that the Odyssey arena in Belfast has but it makes up for all that with the passion of the crowd and the family friendly atmosphere. The Fife Flyers community is like one big family. My hubby gets annoyed at me because in honesty, I very rarely watch the game. I'm all about the atmosphere and the people watching.

I have been going to games since my hubby and I started seeing each other when we were 16 (about 14 years ago) and in that time I've seen babies, wrapped tightly in blankets, soaking up the atmosphere, toddlers running around the rink with the parents chasing after them desperately trying to catch some of the game. Young children playing hockey, fully kitted up, at the bottom of the stairwell, teenagers spending time together in a safe environment  giving them something to do on a Saturday that doesn't involve drinking or causing mischief. Older teens and young adults meeting up at the rink prior to a big night out on the town, dressed to the nines underneath a hockey top which is the only thing keeping the scantily clad warm. Then there is your middle aged, geez oh that would be us! The die hard fans who have a passion for the game and a love of the club, often bringing along with them the next generation of flyers fans. Lastly, there are the golden oldies. I love watching them, they sit with their cosy blankets on their knee and a flask of tea. Quite often they bring snacks and they are often willing to share.

My hubby is directly involved in the club as he runs their website and I'm very proud of him. The future of Fife Flyers is so important to him which by proxy makes it important to me. I'd like to take this chance to encourage you, if you have never been to a Flyers game, give it a go. I promise you that you won't be disappointed and your kids will love it. There is something there for everyone. If you are not a Fifer, support your local ice hockey team. It's a great sport to follow and the players are excellent role models for our children. Ladies - there is plenty of eye candy too!

It's a beautiful day!

It's been a mixed week. JC is getting more unwell by the day. I had to take him to the doctors today and it turn out he has an eye, ear, nose and throat infection. All viral so they won't give him anything for it, it just has to run it's course.

I guess to start off my 'reasons' this week I would like to say that I'm thankful for our health. Although I bitch about my weight regularly I am actually in reasonably good health at the moment and JC's virus is nothing to be worried about. He is still sleeping at night and eating OK so I'm happy that we are all doing well.

I also won a prize in Michelle's Reason to be Cheerful Anniversary Giveaway! I won a pair of golf shoes - which mean nothing to me but my hubby is particularly please which means added brownie points for me!  (Thanks Michelle)

One thing that is making me really happy this week is getting outside in the cold, crisp winter sun. I went for a nice walk last night and another walk this morning. It was really nice getting outside in the fresh air. JC also enjoys a walk in the cold when he is all wrapped and snug. The light at this time of year is lovely. It's really sunny today which makes me smile.

Date Day - 4/366

For my hubby's Christmas I decided to think outside the box. I decided to organise a date day to include some of his favourite activities. He loves snow, Chinese food, golf and films so using this I started forming my plan.

We spent the day at Xscape in Braehead. We started the day with an hour of sledging and tubing (a big rubber ring) in real snow. This was brilliant but we were frozen and wet afterwards.

We then warmed ourselves up with lunch at a Chinese Buffet. I have to say I'm not a fan of Chinese Buffets but this one was really nice. We got a seat by the window where we could watch the skiers and snowboarders.

After a wander round some shops and arcades, where he beat me at basketball hoops, we went to play miniature golf (which he also won).

To cap off a fabulous day we went to see the new Mission Impossible movie in an IMax cinema (a huge screen basically).

I an writing this now as we drive home from what has been a lovely day and probably the most quality time we have spent together since the arrival of JC about 17months ago. We don't spend nearly enough time appreciating each other so it's been lovely to do it in style today.

8/365 - Family Resemblance

Lots of people we know will look at JC and instantly say that he is the double of his Dad. I myself have thought that I don't see much of myself in him and that he looks much more like his Dad. However, my mum thought it would be funny to scan some of my baby photos and post them on Facebook this week. When I was looking through them I saw, for the first time, the similarities between my baby photos and JC's.

So I guess there is more of me in him than I thought. He certainly has my stubborn streak and his Dad's huffy streak!

Reasons to be cheerful No2

What a week! It's been so busy I have barely had time to Blog this week. There is plenty to be cheerful about though:

1. It is the bairn's Naming Ceremony on Sunday and I am really looking forward to it. I went to see the venue today and I am nearly organised. I can't wait to see him all dressed up in his little suit and share his cute smiles with all my friends and family.

2. I managed to get a last minute hair appointment for tomorrow morning. I am thinking about a change of image so watch this space!

3. My hubby and I had a really good chat and a laugh in the car today. Sometimes we have such a good laugh together. Even if he is mostly laughing at me rather than with me! It's good that we can still find humour in the simplest of things.
